And another 1App thing

by on August 23, 2010

We haven’t included off-line forms in our main list of 1App improvements because it is essentially new functionality, but a number of Agents have asked for the ability to download an application form, work on it off-line and then upload it to the Portal with attachments.

In the current climate the key question is likely to be O.K but who pays.

To help answer the question here is a short poll to get your feedback.

Thanks

Chris

CLARIFICATION : what we are proposing are forms that can be worked on, on a computer or laptop i.e when with a client, without needing to be on the Internet. These forms could then be automatically uploaded to the Portal when you log on. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH PAPER FORMS!

We use hard copy 1APP forms to draft the application before submitting on on-line portal. These can be downloaded from Councils direct. Therefore no need for planning portal to provide.

The planning INspectorate already use this system.
They donot call it multiple uploads but one email.

It may be easier to not use the portal but email the LPA direct. With a document issue sheet it could not be easier.

Currently Medway Council and many more besides…download pdf’s from portal, scan to a tiff file (not in colour) then upload to their new system. Takes up to 10 days.

Need lots of staff, slows the process down…… or am I suggesting the portal has bloated LPA’s staff numbers in order to double handle?

I may have missed something in my logic. But the process from planning portal to Council web site is not transparent.

The old fashioned 4 or 5 copies of everything is still quicker.

In these days of the internet everywhere, wifi hot spots, Android phones and i-Phones is there really a need for working offline?

Re Trina comment on Medway – I can’t understand why this council uses tiff format, a hugely wasteful, over bloated format that occupies large areas of band width. Why not simply use the pdf files submitted; a pdf files is a universally recognised format that does not create huge files.
