New planning application payment system – launching 11 July 2025

A faster, simpler way to pay for planning applications is coming.
From 11 July 2025, Planning Portal will switch to a new payment platform, making your payment experience more modern, secure, and user-friendly.
What’s changing?
✅More payment options
Pay using more up-to-date payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and others.
✅Faster refunds
Once confirmed by the local planning authority, refunds will reach your account more quickly.
✅Simplified bank transfers
If you choose to pay by bank transfer (BACS), you’ll receive a unique account number linked to your own Planning Portal account. This adds security and helps simplify the payment process.
- Important: Payments must be made to this new account. Do not use previously saved bank details.
📢 What do I need to do?
To prepare for the launch of the new payment system on 11 July 2025, please follow these steps:
For all applicants
- Be aware that the payment system will change from 11 July.
- Do not use any previously saved bank details after this date.
- Use the new bank account details and payment reference provided with your application confirmation.
If you pay by bank transfer (BACS)
- Ensure your finance or accounts team has the updated payment details.
- Always include the correct payment reference when making a transfer to avoid delays.
For agents and third-party payers
- Share this article with your clients to let them know about the changes to the payment process.
For organisations using bulk payments
- Contact us in advance to confirm access to bulk payment functionality:
support@planningportal.co.uk
- Update your internal processes, to make use of the new option which allows you to notify your finance team when payment is required.
