Building People – connecting diverse people with opportunities in the building industry

by on September 23, 2021

The Planning Portal has recently become an active supporter of Building People, by helping to highlight their platform for diversity in the building industry.

Building People CIC is a social enterprise that is creating connections across the built environment to address the sector challenges of skills, diversity and social value. Through collaboration and innovation, Building People is connecting diverse people to opportunities, and enabling employers to widen their talent pools.

The Building People platform aggregates built environment knowledge, events and vacancies, and connects these opportunities to a network of 40 organisations/initiatives that have the reach into diverse and under-represented audiences (women, BAME people, ex-military personnel, LGBTQ+ people, refugees, ex-offenders and young people, with a new group focused on Health, Safety and Wellbeing). Building People is bringing together a fragmented careers landscape, simplifying user journeys and supporting industry to engage with a more diverse range of talent.

Building People provides an opportunity to share vacancies (from work experience to jobs), events and activities, and knowledge/resources – all of which are connected to organisations that work directly with diverse audiences. Here’s how to join in:

  1. Add job vacancies via the Work Opportunities. This can be a manual upload or via APIs (automatic uploads of vacancies from your website to its platform).
  2. Share your careers events (e.g. networking activities and webinars) by adding them to the Activities and Events
  3. Add careers content and knowledge from your business (e.g. podcast recordings and case studies) to the Resources.

If you have any queries or if you are interested in working more closely with Building People, please contact Rebecca Lovelace directly: rebecca.lovelace@buildingpeople.org.uk.

Building People is committed to developing a built environment industry that improves social and economic value by being better connected and more diverse and inclusive, with access to the talent it needs to solve its current and future challenges.

Rebecca Lovelace, Founder and Chief Dot-joiner at Building People says: “When you combine the urgent need for skilled and competent workers in the built environment sector with a real lack of workforce diversity, but also a commitment to increase equality, diversity and inclusion, then Planning Portal and Building People joining forces is a fabulous example of practical collaborative action. We are thrilled to welcome Planning Portal to the movement for change that is Building People and look forward to working together to connect more people to aggregated content and opportunities across planning and the built environment.”
