Planning Market Insight Report: We’re halfway through the year, how is the market looking?

by on July 15, 2021

The headlines

The Planning Portal has received 387,427 applications so far in 2021. Of these, 63,873 were submitted in June 2021, a very small increase of 376 when compared to last month (May 2021).

This shows a 17 per cent increase on June 2020, compared to a 52 per cent increase between May 2020 and May 2021. However, June 2020 was a month in which we saw a swell of applications created by the first lockdown, so this narrowing of percentage increase was to be expected.

This month’s feature:

Much like proverbial London buses, several key legislative changes from Whitehall are all coming along at once on 1 August 2021.

They will affect a range of application types on the Planning Portal as well as the guidance we provide around common projects, and we are working to update the content on the service to account for them all.

Also included:

This month’s issue also includes analysis on the regional breakdown of application submissions, a national overview from the last five years and an in-depth dive on applications by type and application fees.
