Planning Portal Relaunch

Hopefully, you will know by now that we are launching the new Planning Portal website over the Easter weekend (24-27 March 2016).

Just a reminder that the existing site will be taken offline tonight (Thursday 24 March) at 17:00 and the new site will be available from 09:00 on Tuesday 29 March at Don’t forget to update your bookmarks!

If you are a registered user, your account details and any draft/submitted application data which has been modified since 1 July 2015 will be transferred to the new site.  However, you will need to perform a quick set-up before you access the new application service for the first time:

  1. When you first sign in to the new Planning Portal you will be asked to ‘Set-up your account’.
  2. Your user name and registered email address will then be displayed. If these are correct and you still have access to the email address please click on the ‘Confirm account and send activation email’ button.
  3. The system will then send you an email. You will need to follow the instructions in the email to complete the process.
  4. Once activated, you will be sent a new temporary password that will need to be changed the first time you sign in.

And that’s it! Once you’re in, you will have access to all the functions and facilities you are familiar with but will quickly notice some significant improvements and a new look and feel.

We have published a series of short videos highlighting the new features on the blog if you want to take a look while you are tucking into your chocolate eggs.

  1. I didn’t know about this until today, slightly inconvenient for those of us who will be working between 17.00 today and 9.00 next Tuesday. Can we submit direct to LPAs & if so how?

      Hi. Sorry to hear that. We have been publicising the downtime through messages across the website and application service as well as on the blog. After working hours today, applications would have been registered by local authorities first thing Tuesday in any case, so it shouldn’t delay things for you. Apologies again.

    I am the web manager for a local authority and have spent all morning trying to find out why the portal was down only to find a twitter post today about the new url. We did not know and the links are all across our website. Could you have not planned a redirect on the old url to give us some time to make the change?

      Hi. Apologies that you were unaware – we’ve sent regular communications out via this blog and Twitter, as well as email to local authorities. Regardless, there should have been redirects in place from the old site to the new one, but unfortunately we have been let down by the third party supplier which manages the domain. Its been escalated this morning and should be fixed today or first thing in the morning at the latest. Sarah

      Hi John. The site has been live since 9am. Have you tried clearing your cache? If you’re still having problems, please let me know what internet browser you are using. IE11 and Safari are not working for everyone – Chrome seems universally successful. Thanks, Sarah

    I agree no redirect from the old site and no information on where to go, dont do blogs and twitters – I have work to do, so completely unaware until this morning. It has taken me most of the day off and on, between other work, to track down the new planning portal site , very frustrating. I have yet to try and re -register , hope that goes well!! First time I have ever commented on anything , so annoyed by this lack of sensible publicity on a public government website.

      Apologies for the confusion Sara. We are very frustrated with the redirects situation and continue to work with our supplier to get this fixed. We had comprehensive publicity in place for the launch – including on the homepage and application screens on the site itself – but this was predicated on the redirects working as they should.   6. I know that you are doing your best to cope with the changes ….
    But this email is in frustration after 75 minutes trying to log-in, register, change email address, to telephone you or even email you, or even to find you email and telephone contact details
    No email received after entering account name and password
    No response to telephone calls – after waiting, line just goes quiet and nothing
    No response to asking to change my email address

      Hi Clive. I’m sorry that there is still a problem resetting your account. Its still unclear why emails are being sent from the system but aren’t being received by some users. We’re trying to work out why that is the case and fix it, but in the meantime I am expecting a workaround to be given to us tonight. This will allow us to reset passwords on your behalf – with your permission – and get you in. As soon as we have it, we will work through those affected as quickly as possible. Sarah

    Lost all downloaded plans and documents from draft application set up before the change. Very annoying.

      Yes, we know this causes frustration. Apologies, it is very high on the list of improvements to introduce.
