A tale of two Portals

by on February 22, 2012

In all the excitement about reaching the one millionth application milestone (did I mention that?) I haven’t had a chance to update you on some other developments in the Portal in the last couple of weeks.

We’ve recently been working with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to improve their own application processes.

Specifically, we’ve been trying to improve the process by which companies building the country’s electricity network can apply for permission to erect or maintain overhead power lines (or a Section 37 Consent ‘Form B’ to those in the know).

As part of this co-working initiative we have integrated elements of DECC’s Energy Infrastructure Portal (EIP) into the Planning Portal and used our existing IT links with LPAs to help applications reach LPAs for swifter determination, speeding up the application process for key energy projects.

This is the latest in a series of developments that the Portal has been involved in to deliver policy not just on behalf of DCLG but also other government departments and commercial organisations.

If, as a Government department or other organisation, you’re interested in learning more about how you can work with the Planning Portal to meet mutually beneficial objectives please don’t hesitate to drop me an email (chris dot kendall at communities dot gsi dot co dot uk).
