A new national building control application service from the Planning Portal

by on October 6, 2016

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the Portal will shortly be launching a national building control application service. Well, we’ve set a date: from 10 October you’ll be able to submit building control applications at https://buildingcontrol.planningportal.co.uk

Our existing customers have been asking us for many years to provide a building control service to sit alongside planning. We’re delighted that we’re finally able to do it and the great news for you is that it will also be free of charge to use, just like the planning service.

Even better, we’ve kept it simple to keep the whole process as easy for customers as possible. The service includes full plans, building notice and regularisation forms as well as the option to attach supporting documents and calculate fees, if required.

We’ve engaged local authorities and approved inspectors in the process and will continue to do so to develop the service further in the future.

If you are a local authority or approved inspector and you haven’t yet signed up to receive applications via the service, please contact your Portal Account Manager asap to make sure that you don’t miss out.

And if you can’t wait until Monday, you can watch the walk-through below:

That would be “Full Plans” not full planning

  2. I had great hopes for this but it’s not so good unless all local authorities sign up for it then
same as ‘submit-a plan’, which I have been using for several years.
We need to see a list of whihc local authorities are currently signed -up
Also i get an error message when I try to access the template

Hi Alan, Thanks for the comment. We have about 30 local authorities being set up at the moment and more coming in all the time. The initial batch should be set up by the end of the day and the links set up from the Portal content to point to the service. At that point I’ll post a list of who is online. We’re also working on a map to sit on the application service and make it easier for applicants to understand who is accepting applications via the service while LABC take-up is growing. You shouldn’t be getting any error messages in the service, so I’ll email you separately to understand more on that. Sarah

Would it be possible to include a tick box relating to the new ADM categories and water efficiency? As Building Control need to be informed of these it would be sensible to collect that information now rather than the LA having to go back to the applicant for more information potentially delaying the application being registered.

Thanks for the feedback Michelle. Yes, we’ll take a look at that. Sarah

Is this available in Wales, also it would be good to know what back office systems are supporting as a few have their own products available.

Yes, it’s available in Wales but is not sponsored by Welsh Government, hence no translation into Welsh language. We’re in discussions with most of the IT suppliers at the moment and I’ll let you know as soon as anyone starts working on a connector. Sarah
