The service charge for making a planning application through Planning Portal will rise by £6, to £70 including VAT, from 2 April 2024. This adjustment is essential to sustainably enhance the dependable digital services that underpin the national built environment industry.

Planning Portal rely on income from service fees to provide, maintain and enhance the robust and user-friendly platform that meets the needs of built environment professionals, householders and local planning authorities.

Last year saw considerable investment in Planning Portal in response to our ongoing discussions with users. Most notably, Planning Portal applicants now benefit from our location plan feature, which allows them to build fully compliant location plans as part of their online planning applications. This digital integration has done away with outdated, cumbersome processes, saving time, allowing for greater efficiency and in turn, facilitating the submission of higher quality applications. This was the first step on our on-going journey to integrate digital spatial information directly into the application process.

The past year has also seen Planning Portal receive international endorsement from experts, in the form of the SIG/TÜViT certification for Trusted Product Maintainability, with a four-star rating. Having such a robust underlying platform enables us to bring new features through more quickly, while ensuring the security and availability of Planning Portal.

We have further exciting plans in the pipeline that will see our ongoing improvement approach to Planning Portal continue over the next 12 months, based on your feedback.

If you have any questions about this change, please don’t hesitate to contact communications@planningportal.co.uk.
