Planning Portal’s building control integration will save time and money for Local Authorities

by on March 14, 2024

In Spring this year, Planning Portal will launch a combined portal for the submission of both planning and building control applications. With a host of innovative features, including the ability to transfer details between applications, the new service will revolutionise the way projects are managed, from start to finish.

The combined portal can be accessed via a simple single sign-on process.

Applicants will be able to make and submit both planning and building control applications, seamlessly transferring essential information between applications where necessary.

This means consistency – reducing the need for duplicate data entry and minimising the chance of errors.

Planning Portal's Building Control Portal launching soon.

For some time now, Local Authorities have been required to navigate several different online systems to retrieve and access planning and building applications respectively. The combined service does away with all this – storing both kinds of applications and all associated information inside one, easy-to-navigate portal.

This further builds on our mission to digitise planning and building control services – we know that with local authorities consistently struggling to manage heavy caseloads, any digital time-saving that we can facilitate is going to be a win. The new combined portal is simple, intuitive and user-friendly, removing the headache of convoluted administrative processes.

What’s more, it operates the same user-friendly Planning Portal interface that Local Authorities are already familiar with, meaning no steep learning curve or fundamental changes to internal processes –once your Local Authority has been onboarded, you can simply hit the ground running, increasing productivity and freeing up time for other important work.

The new combined portal for planning and building control offers local authorities a user-friendly solution for managing ALL their development applications. By integrating workflows, facilitating collaboration and enhancing transparency, the new Building Control Portal will help streamline planning and building control for everyone.

Important information for applicants:

Your existing building control log-in credentials will not be valid on the new system. We are transitioning to a single sign-on process, which means you’ll need to use your Planning Portal account to access the new portal. If you don’t already have a Planning Portal account, you’ll need to create one.

Existing draft applications:

If you currently have a building control application in draft, it will not be automatically transferred to the new system.

You have two options:

  • Submit it now – if your application is ready, submit it before we close the current portal
  • Recreate on the new portal – alternatively, create the application again on the new portal once it is launched.

If you are a local authority, you can get in touch now to receive further relevant guidance and begin onboarding the portal as soon as possible.

If you have any additional question on the new service, please do not hesitate to contact us at communications@planningportal.co.uk.
