Planning Portal sign up to Bristol One City Climate Ask

by on September 7, 2023

At Planning Portal, we know that climate change is one of the biggest issues that we currently face as a society. We are already feeling the impacts of climate change, but these challenges are on track to become a lot more serious in the future. It is vital that we act now to limit environmental damage and swerve the worst potential effects of climate change.

As an organisation that operates at the heart of the built environment sector, Planning Portal are acutely aware of how important it is for us to take a strong stance on climate change.

According to Building to net zero: costing carbon in construction25 per cent of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to the built environment.” Urgent change is therefore needed to shift our industries towards a focus on sustainability.

As you may have read, we recently joined the UK Business Council For Sustainable Development (UKBCSD). Through this partnership, we have pledged to use our platform to do whatever we can to encourage and support the development and introduction of environmentally sustainable practices within our industries.

Based in Bristol, Planning Portal are proud to be part of a city that is committed to becoming carbon neutral and climate resilient. We are now incredibly pleased to announce that Planning Portal has signed up to the Bristol One City Climate Ask. Our parent company, TerraQuest, based in Birmingham has equally made its commitment to the West Midlands Net Zero Business Pledge.

By signing up, we have collectively declared our ambitions to become Net Zero by 2030 and 2050 respectively. We’ve benchmarked where we currently are and are now working on a robust and realistic plan to help us achieve this goal, and accelerate where possible.

Through these pledges we hope to lead by example and encourage other organisations within our industries to look for similar agreements or schemes that they can align themselves with and to further consider what action they can take to reduce their carbon impact.

So why don’t you take time today to reflect on what you can do personally, or to consider what your organisation can do, to make a difference on climate change? It is vital that we all take action starting now if we want to achieve the change that is necessary to prevent potentially catastrophic climate damage in the future.

If you would like to find out more about what Planning Portal are doing on climate change, or if you would like to contribute your thoughts on what else we can do, you can contact us at communications@planningportal.co.uk.

For more in-depth information on how your organisation can work to fight and mitigate the effects of climate change, I would encourage you to visit UKBCSD’s website.
