Another green milestone

by on November 3, 2011

The Portal’s Low Carbon Pledge has been signed by well over 100 planning professionals who have declared their commitment to minimise CO2 emissions by submitting their applications online.

Building on the success of this I’m delighted to tell you that the British Sign and Graphics Association (BSGA) is the first professional organisation to sign the Professional Bodies and Trade Association version of the pledge.

By signing the pledge, the BSGA has committed to promote online working to all its members, letting them cut carbon emissions and gain recognition for social responsibility. This is increasingly considered important by leading organisations to boost their competitive edge.

Glad to see how committed the Planning Portal is to green developments. We have worked for three years to develop an architect designed eco-house, registered and certified by BRE as meeting level 6 under the Code for Sustainable Homes. Our Councillors have supported us throughout but the planners have refused it because it is not ‘exceptional’. Otherwise the site etc meet the constraints of PPS7 clause 11 for a residential development in open countryside..We have asked for a definition of ‘exceptional’ from all levels of planning authorities but no one can provide this advice, hence it is a subjective definition. Can anyone help?
