There was a total of 48,094 applications submitted through the Planning Portal in April 2024. This is 2% higher than the total number of applications that were submitted in April 2023. showing a gradual decline, less severe than the trend in recent years.
Read more…Government’s latest broadening of permitted development rights on 21 May 2024 focused on agricultural buildings. This includes both the construction and extension of buildings for agricultural use, as well as changing from agriculture to dwellings or commercial use.

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) regulations, which came into force in February of this year, mean that planning applicants must prove their proposals will enhance biodiversity, rather than merely mitigating any negative impacts associated with their projects.
As of 2 April, the exemption that had previously allowed ‘small site’ applications to bypass BNG requirements has been lifted.
