The National Planning Conference – with thanks to our sponsors
It’s been two weeks since the National Planning Conference 2023, hosted in collaboration between Planning Portal and the Royal Town Planning Institute, was wrapped up in Birmingham.
It was an outstanding event for our industries; without a doubt the most important for UK planners this year. Bringing together expert thinkers, academics, and professionals from across the built environment sector, the conference was a unique hub for networking and idea sharing, building on the most essential dialogues taking place in our industries today.

Over the course of the two days, delegates were treated to a choice of panel sessions and keynote speeches across two conference rooms, covering a diverse range of profound topics. The subject of these sessions included environmental sustainability, developing to support vulnerable and diverse communities, youth engagement in planning, and building with 2070 in mind. An array of truly thought-provoking concepts.
Alive with the buzz of conversation, the event foyer and breakout space hosted exhibition stands from a range of industry advertisers, with enthusiastic representatives networking, sharing knowledge and explaining the key benefits of their products and services.

On the morning of the first day of the conference, we were treated to a Keynote session from Rafael Garcia, who represented the conference headline sponsor, Objective Keyplan. Rafael eloquently explained why technology is the key enabler for change for the plan-led system we currently have in the UK, outlining the positive difference that the use of intelligent software, such as Objective Keyplan’s comprehensive local authority planning policy tool, can have.

Later on the same day, delegates were also given the opportunity to hear more from each of our headline event sponsors, in a dedicated digital planning session.

In this session, Objective Keyplan expanded on the uses, benefits and practical applications of their local authority planning software, whilst Joe’s Blooms shed light on their handy Biodiversity Net Gain preparation service and Environment Bank shared information on the vital work they are doing to create a national network of habitat banks.
The National Planning Conference was a huge success. From the feedback we’ve had so far, it’s fair to say that the event really inspired and motivated the delegates that attended, who came from all areas of our industries. We have come away from conference feeling inspired to continue working hard for the benefit of the industry and to continue facilitating these important dialogues, which we know will help bring about positive, lasting change within our sectors.
We’re incredibly proud with how the two days went, but none of it would have been possible without our incredible sponsors. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend another special thanks to all of them, for helping us make the event such a success:
