Developers confirm appeal over ‘mutant’ Greenwich towers demolition order
The Comer Homes Group is to appeal against an enforcement notice issued by Greenwich Council saying that the Mast Quay II development must be demolished.
Greenwich Council described the towers as a “mutant development”, and said that there were 26 deviations from the plans approved by the council in the finished buildings.
However, Comer Homes has confirmed to The Planner that it will appeal against the enforcement notice and “look forward to robustly correcting the council’s concerns”.
The developer also railed against “inaccurate” public statements and said it would engage constructively with the council.
“In our view, the council’s concerns regarding Mast Quay II can be addressed through following normal process and engaging with us on a retrospective planning application.
“We encourage the council to meet with us and agree a way forward which will avoid wasting significant amounts of taxpayers’ money on litigation when sensible solutions to their concerns are available,” said Comers’ statement.
The council has been praised in some corners for its strong stance on the towers, with The Guardian describing it as a “rare triumph” for developers.
The towers host 204 flats, and there is some anxiety among residents at the prospect of losing their homes.
The developer said it would “urgently discuss” the matter with the council and won’t be making any further comment until these talks have taken place.
